Abstract
The purposes of this study were to develop and investigate the reliability and validity of the active aging scale which assessed the activity and adaptation of the elderly. Active aging scale consists of three sub-scales: participation, health, and security. In this study, we examined the psychometric properties of active aging scale through performing researches for twice. The first study was performed with 600 older adults(m=69.10, sd=5.43), and confirmed the validity of three-factor model and the internal consistency of this scale. In the second study, we did cross-validation of the three-factor model with 400 older adults(m=63.14, sd=4.60) and confirmed again. Finally, we confirmed the criterion-related validity of the active aging with life satisfaction scale, depression scale, negative and positive emotion experiences, and PGCMS. These results suggested that the active aging scale was useful scale that measured elderly¡¯s activity and adaptation in daily life. The implications and limitations of this study were discussed along with suggestions for future studies.
